Diary
Breakfast was big. Big pancakes and syrup and 5 big (i.e. fat) Americans on the next table. The train was (apparently) on time so a 2 mile hike was the order of the day to get us to the station on time. In the event, the train was late and we could have caught the bus. As usual on these trains the staff were full of jokes and silly announcements - probably to keep themselves amused as much as the passengers. Arrived in Grand Junction and found the Youth Hostel near the station. It looked a lot like an old hotel. Food was recommended in the shape of the Ponderosa. All you can eat and drink for about $6. We ate and drank a lot and were stared at and observed by the staff for being English! I assume they were just in awe of us and our technique of using the knife and fork together. Or was it because we mixed the cheese sauce, custard, chilli, baked beans, tomatoes, cheese, peas etc. on one plate ?
Afterwards we went looking for some action in downtown Grand Junction. The only action we found was in the form of gaseous releases from either end of our bodies. We did find a Saturday night auction but our assorted twitches and scratches were not enough to buy us the filing cabinet or the gun. Managed to get back to the hostel just as a storm broke.
